Since the volcanic eruption of Mount Tokachi, an active volcano five miles away from Qingchi, in 1989, the local government decided to add some safety measures by some building a strong & smart construction to protect Biei Town.
They built the lake artificially to protect & sheild Biei Town from volcanic lava and mountains.
Since the lake water of Blue Pond contains the natural mineral aluminum hydroxide (the mineral component of the hot spring), blue light is reflected under the refraction of sunlight! As the weather changes, the light also changes so the water in the pond changes its color, which leads to make it look like Blue Pond with various colors.
Blue Pond is located in the Shirogane Onsen area of Biei and is a famous spot that many photographers like to vist to capture the surreal beauty of the pond and the environment. which looks very picturisque. There are forest trails, waterfalls and hot springs nearby. The location is remote and there are no shops along the road as it is not habitat friendly due to its volcanic nature, it has still managed to attract many Japanese advertisements and music videos to shoot here. Due to in scarce population and less density it’s a very ideal place for uninterrupted shooting at a picturesque locale
Blue Pond is highly recommend to everyone to visit for its serenity and tranquility
